Historical MLB player prop odds APIs, compared

Five APIs that serve MLB player props, by how far back the history goes, whether they return results, books, price and MCP support. Checked against each provider's site.

Comparison facts checked October 21, 2026. FastballAPI data last refreshed 2026-10-22 13:05 UTC, newest data through 2026-10-19. Changelog

For historical MLB player prop lines with what the player actually did, the choice is between collecting odds snapshots yourself and pairing them with a box-score source, or an API that does the join. The Odds API has the deepest public prop archive (additional markets from May 3 2023, snapshots every five minutes, from $30 a month) but its scores endpoint reaches back three days only. SportsDataIO, OpticOdds and SportsGameOdds return results or grading alongside odds, behind a sales call or a $299 plan for history. FastballAPI returns each player's closing line beside his box-score line and the over or under, up to 200 games in one call, from $19 a month.

FastballAPI holds six MLB markets from May 3 2023 (hits, home runs, total bases, RBI, pitcher strikeouts and pitcher outs) from eight books. Before October 2026 each line was sampled once near the first pitch; since then up to three times on each game day. If you need every price change, markets such as stolen bases or earned runs, a book we do not carry or in-play odds, use a full odds feed. If you need the closing line and the result for a backtest, the join is already done here.

The options

  • The Odds API

Odds from over 100 bookmakers, live and historical. Its guide says historical odds begin June 6 2020, and player props, alternate lines and other additional markets are available after May 3 2023, at 5-minute snapshots from September 2022. MLB prop keys include hits, home runs, total bases, RBI, runs scored, strikeouts, stolen bases, earned runs and outs recorded.

Free: 500 credits a month, historical odds included. Paid from $30 a month (20,000 credits) to $249 (15M); a historical call costs 10 credits per region per market. Its scores endpoint covers games up to 3 days ago, so results need a separate source. No MCP server or SDK mentioned on its pricing page.

  • SportsDataIO

A full MLB data feed with odds from 20+ sportsbooks and a consensus line, and player, game and team props with line movement.

Base props do not include results; its Props Plus tier returns pre-game prop results 10 to 15 minutes after each game. Per its page, betting data for events older than 30 days sits in Archive endpoints that need a separate Historical Data API key; no prices published (a free trial or contact form).

  • OpticOdds

Real-time odds from 200+ sportsbooks, pre-match, in-play and player props, with price history and opening against closing line comparison. A hosted MCP server (api.opticodds.com/mcp) lists 16 tools including get_player_props, get_line_history, get_results and grade_bet.

Pricing by inquiry form only. Earliest prop history not stated.

  • SportsGameOdds

MLB batter and pitcher props (hits, home runs, total bases, RBIs, stolen bases, strikeouts, outs recorded, earned runs) from 85+ bookmakers; each response carries final scores and settlement data. Python and JavaScript SDKs.

Free Amateur plan (2.5k objects a month, 10 requests a minute, 9 books); Rookie $99 a month; historical data is listed as included on Pro, $299 a month. Earliest date not stated; MCP not stated on the pages checked.

  • BALLDONTLIE

A multi-sport API. Its MLB docs put betting odds, all betting markets and player props on the GOAT tier only, and its site describes a native MCP server (mcp.balldontlie.io).

GOAT is $39.99 a month per sport; All-Access $299.99. Its MLB docs say the API holds data from 2002 to the present but do not state when odds or props begin.

One call covers up to 200 games for 10 credits. The line is the median of the books' closing lines; pass bookmaker for one book's.

Use the other odds APIs instead if

  • You need every price change before first pitch, not the closing line: The Odds API keeps a snapshot every five minutes.
  • You need markets FastballAPI does not hold (stolen bases, earned runs, walks, alternate lines), in-play odds or a book we do not carry: The Odds API, OpticOdds and SportsGameOdds cover far more.
  • You want graded results across every sport from one vendor and a sales contract is fine: SportsDataIO.
  • You only need today's lines for a live tool and no history.

Questions

What is the cheapest API for historical MLB player props?

With the results attached, FastballAPI: 500 free credits a month, then $19, and a player's season in one market is one 10-credit call (up to 200 games). For raw snapshots without results, The Odds API's paid plans start at $30 a month and its free plan includes historical odds.

How far back do historical MLB player props go?

The public archives start in 2023: The Odds API's player props are available after May 3 2023, which is where FastballAPI's history starts too. Nothing we found publishes MLB prop lines from earlier seasons at a listed price.

Do I need a separate stats source to grade props?

With The Odds API, yes: its scores endpoint covers games up to 3 days ago. FastballAPI returns the box-score stat and the result with the line. SportsDataIO, OpticOdds and SportsGameOdds also return results or grading.

Opening line or closing line for a backtest?

Most props backtests use the closing line, the last price before first pitch. FastballAPI returns the closing line by default and the opening line where it holds an earlier capture; before October 2026 the two are usually the same sample.
